Universal Orlando Resort just confirmed a major change coming to Universal Studios Florida. A brand-new Fast & Furious–themed roller coaster, Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift, is officially on the way, with a planned opening in 2027.
Along with the announcement comes the end of two familiar attractions, signaling a big shift in this area of the park.
What Is Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift?
Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift will be a high-speed outdoor roller coaster designed to simulate drifting. Riders will spin and rotate 360 degrees while racing along the track, creating a sensation meant to mirror street racing scenes from the Fast & Furious films.
Universal confirmed that the Florida version will not be an exact clone of the coaster coming to Universal Studios Hollywood, even though it shares the same name.
Construction is already underway!

One confirmed detail already sets the Orlando version apart.
A Massive Vertical Spike Over CityWalk
Universal Orlando revealed that the coaster will feature a 170-foot vertical spike, sending riders nearly 17 stories into the air above the outskirts of Universal CityWalk Orlando. That makes this one of the most visually dramatic ride elements ever built at Universal Studios Florida.
Additional ride stats such as speed, track length, and ride duration have not yet been released.
Which Rides Are Closing?
To make way for Hollywood Drift, Universal is closing multiple attractions tied to this project.
Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit
The new coaster will replace Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit, which officially closed in 2025. Located near the front of the park, Rip Ride Rockit had been a visual icon of Universal Studios Florida for years.
How Does This Compare to Hollywood’s Version?
The Hollywood version of Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift will open first and includes some known specifications:
- 4,100 feet of track
- Top speed of 72 miles per hour
Universal Orlando has not confirmed whether the Florida version will match or exceed those numbers, but the addition of the towering vertical spike suggests the experience could feel even more intense.
What This Means for Universal Orlando’s Future
This announcement continues Universal Orlando’s aggressive expansion strategy following the opening of Epic Universe. Replacing older attractions with cutting-edge tech and thrill rides keeps Universal Studios Florida competitive and appealing to repeat visitors.
More details, including ride vehicles, storyline elements, and an exact opening timeline, are expected as construction moves forward.
Stay tuned. Once Universal starts testing, things will get very interesting.
